Frodsham Transition Initiative began in January 2012 and has completed a number of projects in its first year.
These include provision of a community apple orchard, promotion to householders of the local authority’s “warmzone” insulation scheme, an intergenerational story-telling series of gatherings and a “Silver Surfers” project to help older people use Skype to contact relatives over the internet.
Projects for 2013 are shaping up to include promoting cycling to school and school fresh-produce gardens.
The initiative has already forged very strong and fruitful links with Frodsham Town Council, Frodsham Foundation, Frodsham Community Association, Cheshire West and Chester, Chester University and O2 (a major employer in the area).
A very successful awareness raising event was held on 8th September 2012 – this was held partnering Frodsham Community Association.
A volunteer day to plant 48 apple trees in a new community orchard was held on 24th November 2012.
A cycling/walking to school day is planned for 14th March 2013.
The initiative holds monthly steering group meeetings.
